Learning About Our Beautiful Country, Singapore!
Our children had a really exciting week in school as they learnt more about their homeland, Singapore. Our educators and teachers lined up a whole week of enriching activities for them to learn more about the island country of Singapore. Let’s take a look at what the children were up to! 😁
Children were introduced to the folktale about the discovery of Singapura and even got the chance to perform a skit on it. Look at the amazing props and costumes that were used in the skit! Children played a part in designing and creating them too! Our teachers are committed to providing opportunities for children to learn authentically through direct interaction and engagement with learning materials and knowledge.
Each class had an exciting project of creating an attraction map of interesting landmarks of Singapore. Every child contributed in their own way to the final piece of artwork.
With the inclusion of project work into our weekly curriculum, our children develop the relevant social emotional skills to work with one another. They also grow in their appreciation for each others’ voices and contributions.
Our children were so dedicated and committed to giving their best effort to create the most beautiful piece of work. We are so proud of them! 😊 We love giving children the opportunity and freedom to express themselves as they learn to value themselves and realise ability to contribute in the process.
Look at this amazing 3-D map made out of recycled materials! A round of applause to the teachers and children for coming up with such creative ways of representing the buildings with the objects that they have. We can see how proud children were of the final product! 😁
One of the main attractions that was included was the Merlion! Our children really enjoyed putting their own spin on the design and decoration of it. Some classes created mural wall pieces while others created 3D models and statues of the Merlion.
We have a committed team of teachers who work hard at coming up with the most creative and engaging activity ideas for our children to do! By giving children different kinds of materials to explore with, they are encouraged to think of innovative ways of using them to decorate their end-products.
For our younger children, simpler activities were curated for them to participate with the same level of engagement as the older ones! Here, they are using crepe paper to decorate Singapore’s national flower: The Vanda Miss Joaquim as well as the Singapore flag.
Learning about Singapore also involves being exposed to some of the current affairs. We introduce the newspapers to children as a source of information about their country. Even though the words are beyond children’s current comprehension, we teach them how to interpret pictures as a way to infer what a passage’s topic is.
Other than learning more about Singapore, children also got to perform a really fun science experiment involving vinegar and baking soda. Children were so intrigued by the chemical reactions. Children learnt about how mixing two different ingredients together sometimes produce other things. In this case, gas was created, which formed the bubbles. Look at how excited they were!
Every week is truly full of excitement and enrichment for the children of Ichiban Montessori. We look forward to see what we have in store next week! 😁
